Recently, on December 20, 2024, ARC Geophysical Research celebrated the publication of its first article, “Thermodynamically Constrained Averaging Theory: Why Bother?” by Timothy M. Weigand, William G. Gray, and Cass T. Miller. The article was published at no cost to the authors, as is the case with all ARC Alliance journals.

ARC Geophysical Research has officially launched and is now open for general submissions. ARC-GR is an open access journal for the geosciences, by the geoscience community, published by ARC Alliance.
The ARC Alliance is on the cusp of launching their first journal, ARC Geophysical Research, led by a distinguished international editorial team. This team includes an advisory committee, a distinguished group of highly accomplished editors-in-chief, and a large, diverse team of associate editors, all dedicated to scholar-led publishing.
The ARC Alliance welcomes inquiries on the establishment of journals, which can be newly conceived journals or journals led by extant editorial teams of commercial or professional publishers interested in transitioning to a Diamond Open Access, scholar-led, ARC Alliance journal. Opportunities for new ARC Alliance journals will be limited but are expected to increase with time.
A rapid, international transition is occurring from subscription-based publication to open-access publishing. Most often, open-access publications require an article processing charge (APC) be paid to the publisher.
The University of Rhode Island has joined the ARC Alliance as an institutional member. The Alliance aims to grow the list of institutional members to build a community supportive of scholar-led publications.
The ARC Alliance has partnered with the University of North Carolina Press to collaborate in launching high-quality Diamond Open Access journals. Established in 1922, the Press is an experienced advocate of open scholarship, with a pedigree of distinguished accomplishment in the field.
